the look

I never actually grew up around computers. For the most part my experience with them has been solely a result of a career move in 2021. So the style of site, the amber terminal theme and the boot sequence are purely a nod to what I never got to experience but have come to appreciate nonetheless.

Minimalism seems to have had its heyday, but its design philosophy speaks to me and so I've tried to keep themes simple and clean, with a light-mode available and skippable boot sequence (with a click) for those who prefer reduced movement.

principles

First and foremost, this is a site for me, a collection of my research and interests. You won't find a comment section anywhere on the site. Instead I encourage you to reach out to the email below.

The only principle I have for the design of this blog is the following. It should be simple enough to hold in my head, and boring enough to still work in ten years' time. RSS will be made available for those who prefer it and sections to the site will emerge from the posts I create. A changelog line is added to every post to keep revisions honest.

history

Initially I added a CRT-like background for that retro aesthetic as well as a dithering mechanic for images. But these were both dropped fairly swiftly. The former was too distracting and took from the reading focus. The latter was trying to emulate a design that I thought would add something to the user's experience. Both seemed to lose focus on what this site really is.
